Simple Low Fat Greek Yogurt Ranch Dressing

By Samantha Chabior, RD

This is the simplest heart healthy Greek yogurt ranch dressing recipe! If you love a nice creamy bottled dressing, then this is a great low saturated fat alternative.

With just a few simple ingredients you’ll have a delicious homemade dressing in under 5 minutes that is perfect for salads, dips, and spreads for sandwiches and wraps! No food processor or other equipment required. Just some basic spices and Greek yogurt!

This makes a small batch of only ½ cup, but I find this enough for at least 4 servings when it comes to using it as a spread for sandwiches and wraps. It should also be enough for a large salad or a small dip.

Since everyone has different taste preferences when it comes to their ranch sauce (some like it sweet, some like it with a bit of bite, others want it extra garlicky!), you can easily adjust the ratios of the spices and acids to meet your taste preferences.

Want a bit of sweetness like a traditional ranch bottle salad dressing from the store? Add ½ to 1 teaspoon of sugar. Looking for a bite? Add a dash of cayenne or hot sauce. Want it less garlicky? Use half the garlic powder.

This is also quite a thick recipe, so if you want it to be thinner you can add some low fat milk or buttermilk to dilute it, or a bit extra lemon juice to thin it out while still keeping the zest.

To make a larger 1 cup portion simply double all of the ingredients!

This recipe is a great heart healthy swap to the bottle ranch dressing because it contains 0 grams of saturated fat (since it uses a non-fat Greek yogurt as the base), contains no added sugar, and less salt (only a bit is added through the dijon mustard and whatever is naturally occurring in the yogurt). It also has the bonus of containing satiating protein, so you feel more full and satisfied by using this as a dip with your veggies or as a dressing!

Notes

Serving: this sauce can be used as a dip with raw veggies like cherry tomatoes and cucumbers or with whole grain pita. It can also be used as a salad dressing for a creamy garlic flavour, or as a spread on your favourite wraps or sandwiches. I personally love it with a homemade buffalo chicken ranch wrap!
Storage: easily keeps in the fridge for 7 days in a sealed container.
