There’s nothing better than grabbing a big bowl of popcorn and settling in to watch a movie or a big game! I’m especially a big fan of caramel popcorn – there’s just something so addictive about a sweet and crunchy food! But when I’m looking for a healthier alternative, then this Sweet & Crunchy Cinnamon Popcorn recipe is my fave go-to!

It takes under 10 minutes to get from kernel to couch, so don’t worry about spending forever in the kitchen with this recipe. It’s super simple to whip up with only 6 ingredients that you probably already have hanging around in your house.

It’s also much lower in added sugar (only 6 grams per serving – or about 1.5 teaspoons) compared to the store bought versions, and it’s low in saturated fat and sodium so it’s a perfectly guilt-free snack.

I made this using a popcorn maker because it cuts down the cooking time and added oil needed, but you can also make this on the stovetop using a large pot if you don’t have a popcorn maker handy.

This recipe does make the popcorn a bit sticky because of the honey, so I personally find storing any leftovers (if you’re lucky enough to still have some leftover!) in a large plastic mixing bowl with a lid works better than sealed plastic bags, but you can use whatever you have at home.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Popcorn kernels
  • cup Olive oil or canola oil
  • 1-2 Tbsp Honey
  • tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Make popcorn in a popcorn maker, or heat a small amount of oil in a large non-stick pot and add one or two popcorn kernels. Once kernels start popping add the rest of the popcorn kernels to the pot and cover. Heat until popping sounds slow down and most of the kernels are popped, shaking the pot occasionally to ensure all the kernels pop (be careful not to burn the popcorn!).
  • Spread popcorn onto a large baking sheet and drizzle ⅛ cup olive oil over all of the popcorn. Mix using your hands until oil has been distributed over all of the popcorn. Transfer popcorn into a large bowl.
  • In a separate small bowl combine honey, salt, and vanilla extract. Drizzle mixture over popcorn and toss to combine using hands or large metal salad spoons.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon (using about ¼ tsp at a time) over the popcorn and stir until popcorn is evenly coated.

Notes

Serving: Serve honey cinnamon popcorn on it’s own, or mixed with a savoury popcorn for a mix of salty and sweet!
Storage: This popcorn tastes best when eaten immediately, but it can also be stored in an airtight container or sealed plastic bag for up to 2-3 days.
